The Attorney General's Office of Puebla is conducting an investigation into the case of Marilyn Cote, who is accused of offering illegal psychiatric care and prescribing controlled substances without professional authorization. So far, five individuals have filed complaints against her.
In a press conference, Puebla's Attorney General, Gilberto Higuera Bernal, pointed out that in addition to the charges of usurpation of profession, Cote faces accusations of document forgery. Authorities are working together with health agencies to strengthen the investigation and clarify the extent of the illegal activities.
The initial complaint was received on November 6, when it was reported that Marilyn Cote was offering psychiatric services in an office at the Torres Médicas in San Andrés Cholula, where she allegedly prescribed controlled medications without the required training or credentials. A search of Cote's office has revealed documents that support the suspicion that she was practicing psychiatry illegally.
Affected individuals have provided prescriptions confirming the dispensing of these medications since 2019. In response to these findings, the Health Secretary conducted an inspection and closed Cote's office. The Attorney's Office continues with proceedings to gather more evidence and determine if there are more victims of this fraudulent practice.
